In 2012, I started walking north from Los Angeles. The journey lasted months.

I’d already spent years walking around Olympia, Washington. A vision condition meant I couldn’t drive, so walking became how I got around, and how I got to know the world.

On the Oregon coast, something became clear to me: the friendships I’d made were what made the journey possible.

I went back to walk those four hundred miles of coast in 2015, 2016, and 2018. It’s still the best summer home I’ve ever had.
